Wooden Boat Building Program

The LPBMM Boat Building Program allows students to choose among several designs, then complete them to fit their needs.
The Maritime Museum Boat Building Program helps students build traditional Louisiana designs under the watchful eye of experienced instructors. Lake skiffs, pirogues, and bateaux are constructed as part of three semesters annually, and several shorter classes offered periodically.
This year the success of the dynamic Boat Building Program is memorialized as the subject of the 2009 Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival poster. For more information on the poster, click here.
To learn more about how the popular lake skiff is constructed, see the JK Wood Studio website by clicking here or see the February 9, 2010, “Heart of Louisiana” story by Fox 8 click here.
New in 2010! June 7-18, 2010 the Maritime Museum will offer the Wooden Boat Building Short Course for the first time. Designed for those who can not commit to a longer boatbuilding program, this course compresses the construction of a skiff hull into a two week period.
