Boat Building

The Maritime Museum Boat Building Program helps students build traditional Louisiana designs under the watchful eye of experienced instructors. Lake skiffs, pirogues, and bateaux are constructed as part of three semesters annually, and several shorter classes offered periodically. Our regular boat building classes are every Monday and Wednesday evening from 6pm to 9pm, excluding most holidays. The public is welcome to come by and visit.

If you are interested in enrolling in the Boat Building Program, download the Registration Form and Recommended Tools or call the Maritime Museum at 985-845-9200 for more information.

The success of the Boat Building Program is memorialized as the subject of the 2009 Wooden Boat Festival poster. Call us or visit our Gift Shop to get one of these beautiful posters, or one of the other Wooden Boat Festival posters.
