On Thursday, September 18, 2014, The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum will unveil the 2014 Wooden Boat Festival poster from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Abita Roasting Company, 504 Water Street, Madisonville, La. This event is free and open to the public. Guests will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres, as the original poster artwork by the talented Don Scafidi is unveiled. Posters, which Don will sign and personalize, will be on sale for $45.00
Don Scafidi, of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, is a World War II veteran, former ship owner and retired Naval Reserve Officer who has been involved with ships and the sea all of his life. His enduring affair with “all things marine” is reflected not only in his artwork, but also in his long career in the marine industry.
He has created works for multiple museums, including the Battleship Alabama Museum, the Galveston Historical Foundation, the Biloxi Seafood Industry Museum, the National World War II Museum and the New York Fire Academy. He has produced work for eight previous Wooden Boat Festivals, so it’s fitting that he return as the 25th anniversary Poster Artist.
The 25th annual Wooden Boat Festival will be held October 11 – 12 in Madisonville, Louisiana to raise funds to support the ongoing education and historical programming at the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, as well as the preservation of the Tchefuncte River Lightstation and Lightkeeper’s Cottage.
