‘Show and Tell’-A tackle and boating equipment swap meet, nautical arts market, and fishing tales storytelling stage

AbbyPerry1Saturday April 5th,  2014, The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum will host ‘Show and Tell’, a multifaceted event, showcasing a nautical themed arts market, a fishing and boating equipment swap meet, and a ‘Fishing Tales Stage’ for storytellers  to publically stretch the truth about ‘The One that Got Away’. ‘Show and Tell’ fuses visual art, tackle, with poetry and a few downright lies. Come join in the fun! Admission to this event is free.

FISHING TACKLE SWAP MEET:

Outside the museum, the Swap Meet will be the place to find that special lure that nobody sells anymore, or a gently used reel to replace the one that you wore out pulling on GIANT FISH.  Clean out that closet or garage, dig through your fishing gear that you no longer need and want and haul them to the Swap Meet.

Booth applications are due March 20, 2014.

NAUTICAL ARTS AND HISTORIC CRAFTS MARKET:

Up to 50 Artists working in nautical/ maritime/ and historic craft themes will be juried into the ‘Nautical Arts Market’ at the Maritime Museum.  Selected artists will be showing and selling work ranging from paintings to sculpture to jewelry and handmade lace during the ‘Show and Tell’ event.

Artist applications are due March 20, 2014.

FISHING TALES:

When you start to tell a real whopper of a fishing tale, do you find people are getting up and leaving the room instead of leaning forward on the chairs and listening intently? Do you ever just wish that you could spend some time with a group of people who felt as strongly about fishing as you do?  ‘Show and Tell’ is the event for you!  We’ll provide the microphone and a lively MC on the porch of our historic Light Keeper’s Cottage, you provide the tall tales. Don’t forget to bring a blanket, beach chair, or picnic lunch and make yourself comfortable. These tales can sometimes go on awhile.  We’ll have a cash bar and snacks available if your tale needs fortification.
