Poster Artist Search for 2013 Wooden Boat Festival, Deadline April 15

On October 12th and 13th, 2013, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum (LPBMM) will present the 24th annual Wooden Boat Festival (WBF) along the banks of the scenic Tchefuncte River in Madisonville, La.

Artists interested in being considered for the 2013 WBF Poster Artist by the selection committee should submit a sketch or prior work that represents either a specific boat or boat style.  This work should demonstrate your skills in rendering a water and boat scene. Submit with your sketch a brief biography, an indication of the mediums with which you work, and several sample COPIES of prior work, preferably in electronic format. All submissions are welcome, but must arrive electronically to, info@lpbmm.org, or to the Museum at 133 Mabel Drive, Madisonville, LA, by 4:00 pm on Monday, April 15, 2013.

The person chosen as the 2013 WBF Poster Artist will be officially recognized at several festival events and    provided with an artist vendor tent at the two day festival. For 22 years the poster has been the face of our celebration, and with the image replicated on t-shirts and other promotional materials, a much sought after memento of the festival. Creation of a poster for the Festival is a tradition that dates back to the origins of the event in 1990. The first poster was a three color serigraph print of a Lake Pontchartrain oyster lugger, by Georgia Anne Sears.

The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.— 4 p.m., and  Sunday, 12 p.m. — 4 p.m.  For more information about the 2013 Wooden Boat Festival, to register a classic wooden boat, become a volunteer, request a food vendor or artist application, or register a Quick’N’ Dirty Boat Building team, call the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum at (985)845-9200 or log on to www.woodenboatfest.org.
