On March 3, 2010, preliminary architectural drawings of the new Madisonville Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library were unveiled at the Maritime Museum. The new library is to be located north of the Maritime Museum’s north parking lot between Main Street and Mabel Drive. No date for start of construction has been announced.  On April 10 Dragon Boat Racing comes to the Tchefuncte River. The first annual Greater New Orleans International Dragon Boat Festival sponsored by the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission will occur on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville on April 17. Visit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum pavilion on Water Street south of the bridge to purchse Budweiser products to benefit the museum’s educational programs as you enjoy this unique event. The action is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and conclude at 5:00 pm. Viewing along South Water Street is free and open to the public. The Maritime Museum will offer a Wooden Boat Building Short Course for the first time June 7-18, 2010. Designed for those who can not commit to a longer boatbuilding program, this course compresses the construction of a skiff hull into a two week period.
