Preliminary Drawings of New Madisonville Library Unveiled

On March 3, 2010, preliminary architectural drawings of the new Madisonville Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library were unveiled at the Maritime Museum.  To see the drawings and for an update on library construction, visit the St. Tammany News article.

The new library is to be located north of the Maritime Museum’s north parking lot between Main Street and Mabel Drive.  No date for start of construction has been announced.

Dragon Boat Races, April 17, 2010

On April 10 Dragon Boat Racing comes to the Tchefuncte River.

The first annual Greater New Orleans International Dragon Boat Festival sponsored by the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission will occur on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville on April 17.  Visit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum pavilion on Water Street south of the bridge to purchse Budweiser products to benefit the museum’s educational programs as you enjoy this unique event.  The action is tentatively scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and conclude at 5:00 pm.  Viewing along South Water Street is free and open to the public.

New Short Boat Building Course

Tchefuncte Marsh Acquisition

On Sunday, May 3, 2009, The Nature Conservancy will hold at the Maritime Museum a reception celebrating the acquisition of 800 acres of the Tchefuncte Marsh. The land will be management by Southeastern Louisiana University in cooperation with the Maritime Museum. The reception is at 4:00pm. Space is limited, so RSVP by calling 225-338-1040, ext. 2000.
